At MedPro Group, we want to foster an environment where our employees can live their professional dreams and make a difference in an inclusive culture. We believe that being the best comes from building a team comprised of diverse individuals coming together for a common purpose. We brought that philosophy to life through our Inclusion & Engagement efforts: attracting & welcoming employees from all backgrounds; training & developing each team member to foster their success; and creating resource and mentoring groups (including Multicultural Inclusion, Pride, Connections, Military Families, Wellness, Women’s Network) that enable our employees to engage & support one another.
As fulfilling as these efforts have been, we remain unsatisfied by the fact that there’s only around 20% diversity in the insurance industry. Surprised? We were too. Since insurance is one of the largest and most dynamic fields in the finance sector, we knew there had to be a disconnect. So, we decided to research the issue. What we discovered was one of the biggest barriers for diverse candidates was lack of exposure to the industry. Once we gained insight into the problem, we put our minds to figuring out how to address it.
In 2020, we launched MedPro Group’s Foundations of Insurance program with several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)/Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) around the country. This initiative is designed to bring awareness of the insurance industry to diverse students through a hands-on, immersive professional experience. Our leaders personally teach courses, offer coaching and help pave the way for professional opportunities. At course completion, students receive a trip to our home office, an academic scholarship, and the opportunity to participate in a paid internship.
